Chagall.

This photo I took in the museum is a painting by Marc Chagall (1887-1985).
He was born in a poor jewish family in Russia (in Vitebsk, now part of Belarus) and his real name was Moishe Shagal.
He began to study painting in 1906 and then moved to St Pertersburg in 1097 and joined the School of the Society of Art Supporters.
He remained in St Petersburg until 1910 and then moved to Paris adn befriended with artists such as Guillaume Apollinaire, Robert Delaunay, Fernand Léger...
He died in Saint Paul De Vence (Provence) in 1985 and he was buried there.

If you want ot know a bit more about him click here.
There is a Chagall Museum in Nice (France).

Oh, my, Chagall. I never realized he lived so long, and quite a few years after I was born, too. I thought he was... ummmm.... looooong dead.

Merci, am learning a lot about French artists and such from your narratives and photos. Previously, I had only known about Chagall's glasswork in some of the cathedrals throughout France. I recall the St Etienne Cathedral in Metz had some beautiful Chagall. Ciao!
