Criterium du Dauphiné

Today was the first stage of the Criterium du Dauphiné Libéré.
This race has been organised by local newspaper the Dauphiné Libéré since 1947. It is know to be often used by the pros to make their final preparations before the Tour de France.

The first stage was held yesterday (Monday, 11th), between Grenoble and Roanne.
I went there about half an hour before it starts so I had the opportunity to take some pictures of the racing cyclists. Here you have : Tom Danielson, Alexander Vinokourov, Christophe Moreau and Florent Brard.

German Heinrich Haussler won this first stage and apparently it was a great surprise.

Tomorrow you'll be introduced to the mayor of Grenoble who was there to launch the race.

Hi there! That was sooooo cool that this bicycle race, a prelude to the Tour de France, started in your city! I did some looking on the internet to find out more about the results of the race abd I guess the winner is only in his third year as a professional and has never raced in the Tour de France before but he did a great job in winner the first stage in 5 hours, 35 minutes and 5 seconds!
We have OLN TV here and now Im wondering if they will show it on TV. I'd love to see a video of your town!

A nice photo of the early race stages. I like the men lined up on stage. I did not know it would be the prelude to the Tour de France.

I have 1 baby raccoon today and a pile of poop!

I ADORE the Tour de France, and I am interested in the start and the info that Kala provided! Good decision to use a collage to introduce the riders.
Nice photos of the cyclists!

The American team has been getting a lot of bad press for suspicion of steroid use at Tour de France, which isn't a surprise considering the amount of drug abuse happening in local sports like baseball and (American) football.
