Grenoble pour l'égalité.

March 16th is the first day of an even called "Grenoble pour l'égalité, contre le racisme, l'antisémitisme et la xénophobie" (= Grenoble all for equality, against racism, antisemitism and xenophobia).

Apparently, all sorts of activities are organized and/or linked to the event : a football match, a graphic design competition, a dance performance, and discussions of course!
You can click on the poster for the detailed program (in French).

I don't really know whether those little stickers have a direct link with the event or not, but there are to be found everywhere at the moment.

Does Grenoble generally have much of a problem with these things? I wouldn't say we have much antisemitism, but racism and xenophobia definitely. I'd be interested to know whether an event like this has an impact on the problem.

I'm enjoying looking through your blog. I used to be in Grenoble every year in the 90's en route to Les Ecrins for climbing holidays or cycling trips. Beautiful town, it has great feeling about it, and of course the mountains nearby.

kerry-anne> well no, we can't really say that racism, antisemitism or xenophobia are a problem in Grenoble. A lot of people around Grenoble have even been involved with the "Résistance" during world war II.

Nevertheless there are cities not far from here, like Lyon, that are definitely concerned with antisemitism (some anti -semitic attacks have even occured there). And racism as well. But maybe it's more visible simply because it's a larger city...

Concerning the event, I didn't know about it before 2007. So if the organizers want it to have a real impact, I think that they should communicate more about it, make it more visible.
