We have a new president...

As you may already know it, we have a new president here in France : Nicolas Sarkozy.
I won't say much more on the question, if you want details you can click here. You can also check the websites of 3 of our major newspapers : Le Monde (quite neutral)/ Libé (left)/ Le Figaro (right).
For my part, none of the two candidates really convinced my so well, let's see what happens now.

I just heard Sarkozy's party representative here in Sydney interviewed on radio. Apparently the Sarkozy vote in Australia was 60%. He put it down to young people amenable to change and looking for a more "oportunity based" society and hence predisposed to the "exciting changes" ahead.

Sally's comment is interesting. All the young people I know hate Sarko and all voted for Royal.
It's going to be an exciting 5 years though...

I would not really know for whom I would have voted. In any case, as one of those immigrants I hadn't the right.

I hope the young people and the unemployed will see some benefit.

The main thing our newspaper said was that the new French president was a strong ally of Pres. Bush, which then made me not like him too much but then as I read the article, it said he also called on Bush to take the lead on Environmental issues!!! That was really kewl so now I will wait and see if foreign leaders will continue to press on the U.S. president to make environmental friendly policies.

I think the main effect will be on the more traditional socialist party. let's hope they choose a different direction to thebland, sycophantic policies of british new Labour, and Australian Labor.
